Tweet Old Post

Tweet Old Post is no more tweet old post because you can even post your latest tweets with tweet old post now. Tweet old post was designed initially to tweet your old post. But the changes made to tweet old post will also allow you to tweet your latest post, thus not only keeping your old post alive but also, promoting your new posts.

New in Tweet Old Post v 3.0

Tweet your old post with tweet old post

OAuth

Added OAuth authentication. You just have to click on the signin button and login to your twitter account to associate it with Tweet Old Post to which tweets are to be posted. If successful it will show you your avatar and give you option to DeAuthorize.

If you want to remove the association between your twitter account and Tweet Old Post plugin you'll have to DeAuthorize your twitter account from Tweet Old Post plugin. You can then associate another account with Tweet Old Post.

Minimal Interval Between Tweets

You need to enter Numeric value. This value is Interval between two tweets. This value is in hours. It has to be minimum 1 for your tweets to be posted.

Random Interval

This is a contributing factor in minimum interval so that posts are randomly chosen and tweeted from your blog. This value should be Numeric. This value is in hours and should be minimum 1 for your tweets to be posted.

Minimum age of post to be eligible for tweet

This is minimum age of your post to be available for tweet. This value is in day / days

If you set it for 10 days all your post older than 10 days become and are eligible for tweet, and one of them will be randomly picked and tweeted. Any of your post which is published in last 10 days will not be tweeted.

If you want your latest / today posts to be tweeted you can set this value to 0 day. 0 day means the post which you just published will also be eligible for tweet and will be considered while tweeting by tweet old post.

Maximum age of post to be eligible for tweet

This is maximum age of your post to be available for tweet. This value is in day / days

If you set it for 20 days all your post older than 20 days are not eligible for tweet, and will not be tweeted.

if you want to tweet your latest post of today and day before, you can set minimum age to 0 day and maximum to 1 day.

If you want to tweet your posts of last 10 days, you can set minimum age to 0 and maximum age to 10.

If you have more ideas or suggestions about Tweet Old Post feel free to drop a comment or mail me. Looking forward for your replies :)

Awsome plugin.could not be easier to us. Thank you, Ajay, for your hard work.

  • http://www.twocraftychicksonline.com tanya

    Hi there,

This plugin works great on my other site, with my other twitter account, but it has stopped working on the twocraftychicksonline site…

    What happened?

    THis is the error code:
OOPS!!! there seems to be some problem while tweeting. Tweet request returned error code .

  • http://www.ericasays.com Erica Mueller

I’m getting the same error as Tanya. The plugin worked fine for several days, but since updated has not worked at all. I can’t even tell it to manually tweet a post.

    • http://www.ajaymatharu.com/ Ajay Matharu

@Erica – Can you try deauthorizing and again authorizing and then try to do a manual tweet to check if that works. Let me know if that still doesn’t works.

  • todd

I deauthorizedand authorized again and did a manual tweet (which worked), but the auto tweets are not working anymore.

  • http://www.markingegno.biz/blog/ markingegno

When I click on “Sign in with Twitter” it takes me back to the plugin page, so I can’t associate it to my twitter account. Any help?

  • http://healthy-tips.net jack

I like your plugin very much.
But I had problem same todd and no error message.
Could you tell me how to solve it ?
    Ths

  • http://planet10tech.com Tomasz Stasiuk

I love the idea but it just spammed all my posts in one shot even though minimum interval is set as 4 hours with 4 hour random interval.

I have lots of angry replies, unfollows, and I can’t even reply back to apologize because I am not over my daily limit.

I’m not angry with you, but I can’t use your plugin v3.0 with WP 3.01. Any ideas what went wrong?

  • http://jivebay.com/ jive

I had this problem, but then I noticed the hours were still set to “14400″. I changed it and I’m thinking that will fix it. It had that setting from the previous version in which that was for how many seconds to wait.

  • http://pinotinkle.com Ivan Ong

I just downloaded and activated the plugin, and did a quick configuration.

When I clicked “Update Tweet Old Posts Options”, it immediately tweeted every post on my blog, spamming my twitter account and crashing the server on my web host.

This is serious! Now I don’t dare to even change anything on the plugin… Please help…

Does anyone else have the same problem?

I also posted this on the forum for discussion:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-tweet-old-post-tweeted-every-post-on-my-blog-immediately?replies=1

  • http://www.jarretmorrow.com Jarret

First, I would like to thank you for this great plugin!

Second, there’s a problem with the suggestions for maximum age of old posts. When I set it as 0 or blank (as recommended) for those who don’t want to use that option, it tweet every post instantly on my server until it crashed. My Twitter account also was disabled.

The solution is very simple, set the maximum age of old posts to a big number say 10,000 and there’s no problem.

    thanks,

    Jarret

  • http://www.elinda.info eLinda Info

I’ve got the same problem Markingegno has. Clicking on the “Sign in with Twitter” still redirects me to
    ../wp-admin/options-general.php?page=TweetOldPost.
WP 3.01 is installed on sub domain.

    What do I do wrong?

  • http://pinotinkle.com Ivan

Some form of acknowledgement and reply from the author would be nice…

    • http://www.ajaymatharu.com/ Ajay Matharu

@Ivan – yes i know there is some problem with the plugin it tweets all the post in a go. That problem will be resolved in the next release this weekend. Also some advancements are being made. Regarding testing it on subdomain need to be done on my side will check and get back to you guys soon :) stay tuned.

  • Dave

    Hey Ajay
If there’s a bug in your new script, why not roll back to the original one if it was working right – at least until you get this one fixed?

Sadly I’ve disabled the plug in because I cant risk being shut down by twitter.

  • Dave

Looks like your on it -
    Thanks Ajay!

  • http://mfeldstein.com/ Michael Feldstein

My problem seems to be with the way you have exclusion categories set up. What I want to do is *only* tweet old posts that are filed under a particular category. But since pretty much all of my posts are filed under more than one category, any old post that’s in the category I want to tweet from is also in one or more of the excluded categories. So nothing gets sent. Ideally, it should be possible to say “only tweet a post if it is included in one of the following categories.”

    Thanks.

  • http://www.jarretmorrow.com Jay

Version 3.1 doesn’t work for me. I can’t manually tweet old posts or do it automatically. Sadly, I can’t even go back to version 3.0 since it isn’t available at WordPress. I’ve tried reauthorizing with Twitter and that didn’t work. Once again, great plugin but version 3.1 isn’t working for me.

  • http://www.jarretmorrow.com Jay

Sorry the message I get is as follows: “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.” I’ve tried activating / deactivating the plugin, changing all of the settings multiple times too.

  • http://www.spielereviews.com Mario

    hey ajay,

thx for the great plugin! unfortunatley i’ve got some serious problems since the update!

the plugin is no more tweeting posts and i get the following error message: “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.”

I haven’t omit any category and all posts should be included. Can you help me?

    thanks!

Hi … im tryng to star using this plugin
once i click on update to then click tweet now it tells me
“No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.”

how can i fix this ??? all my settings are rigth !

  • http://www.jarretmorrow.com Jarret

Hi, sorry to bother you again! I think that this plugin rocks, but version 3.1 isn’t working at all for me.

Could you upload version 3.0 to the WordPress plugin repository? The only available version besides 3.1 is 1.5.

I’m not sure why, but version 3.1 won’t allow me to manually tweet or auto tweet posts at all. I’ve tried several things to fix this issue.

    thanks

The concept of plugin is fantastic and I honestly thank you from my heart. The problem is that the plugin did not work for me even with default setting. When I click Tweet Now buton it displays

No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.

I could not figure out solution. Any suggestions please.

  • http://everythingpuntagorda.com gregory dyer

    Hi Ajay,

It seems as the plugin is no longer working for me. I started using it about a week ago, and after refining the settings, I now get the error “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again”. I have:

    Minimum age 2
    Maximum age 30

Categories to Omit from tweets: 3 old categories

I have 15/20 post available from the last 20 days or so that are in the everything category…and nothing will post.

Thanks for any help in advance,

    Greg

  • http://scottwyden.com Scott

now working for me anymore either. i de-auth and re-auth but even manual is not working.

  • http://www.ishmaels.net/blog Rex

It was all working great until Oct 1. It has quit sending any old posts and when I try to change any of the setting so it should pick something I get: “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.” I know this can’t be true as there are plenty to pull from?
Any ideas? I have deleted it and re-installed but WP saved the database as it came back up with my log in info?

  • http://newdemonstration.com JM Vergara

Hi. I’ve been using your plugin for over a month now. And I must say that it’s an awesome plugin! Thank you so much for your work!

However, when I updated the plugin to 3.1, the plugin has ceased to work. I keep getting this message no matter what settings I change:

“No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.”

I even tried reinstalling the plugin. No dice.

I’m not the only one experiencing it apparently:

After the last update to version 3.1 the plugin is not working by itself. When I try to “Tweet Now” I get this message “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.”.
My account has been authorized. The settings are the same as before the update.

    What is happening?

  • http://www.ryanhanley.com Ryan H.

I am getting this error when I try to tweet:

“No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.”

I have hundreds of posts on my site and this plugin has worked fine for months. This started with the most recent updated.

  • http://www.mobilelifetoday.com David

    Hi,
You have a great plug-in. It’s worked really well for a while now. I’m having a problem though. I’m using it on two sites and both sites stopped working three days ago on October 5th 2010. I’m not getting any error messages. Only thing weird is that when I hit the “Tweet Now” button on the settings page the message I get says “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.” I’ve tried changing the settings but it still doesn’t work. I’m still connected to twitter. Any thoughts?
The sites that I have the plug-in on are http://www.mobilelifetoday.com and http://www.chickensoncamera.com. Both sites are running WordPress version 3.0.1 and I’m using Tweet Old Post version 3.1.
It’s just strange that both sites stopped working on the same day.

    Thanks!

I want to be updated every 15 minutes as I do??

  • http://www.papasworld.co.uk PapasWorld

I’ve been using this plugin for a while and it’s worked great but 3.1 seems to have a bit of a problem in that no new tweets are being generated at all.

Clicking on Tweet Now simply says ‘No Post Found To Tweet. Please Check Your Settings and Try Again’

Have tried changing all the different settings but it won’t post anything now.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

  • http://zaryl.com zaryl

I have used this plugin before and it works very well. but after the plugin was updated recently, it did not function as normal.

This message stated “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.”

I really like your plugin function, and I was sad when this happens. I hope you can fix it to work as before.

thanks again for the great plugin

  • http://www.DupreyHomeAutomation.com/blog Brian

Hello, Thanks for the plug in. Its been working great for months and all the sudden stopped. I have gone over the settings over and over and can not get it to work. Says there are no posts to tweet, although there are, irregardless of the settings. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • http://justinsbrainpan.com Justin Matthews

Hay Ajay, I do love this post, but it has quit working this week. When I try to do a test, it says no posts found to tweet no matter what settings I change to. I tried deactivating the plugin and restarted I also deauthorized and reauthorized my twitter and it is still not working. any Suggestions? I have version 3.1 installed.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Ajay,
after the last upgrade your plugin stopped working on my site. I’ve tried to deauthorize and allow again, but it doesn’t work…

  • http://www.cyberchocolatestore.com/ Carol

    Hey Ajay,

I’ve been using your plugin for several months and I think it’s fantastic! It really increases the traffic. But I don’t know what other plugin I added in my blog and since then my “tweet old post” stopped working. It just gives me the follow message when I try to update and tweet “No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.” I already removed everything new I could but still it doesn’t work… Have you ever heard anything like this? Thanks in advance!

  • http://www.sowpeace.com kera

really hoping to use your plugin – it looks like a great idea… have authorized my twitter account, but trying to “tweet now” it tells me “no post found to tweet” tho i know i have 100+ available… any ideas?

I really do NOT want to make it so obvious that I am retweeting OLD posts! Is there some way to change the name of this to make it less obvious that I am trying to recycle old content??

Also, I very frequently post sever times per hour. It looks like you plugin cannot be set to tweet more than once per hour.

What I would like is to tweet each post immediately as it is made and then retweet some recent posts too.

    Can you help with this?

  • http://blog.websourcing.fr Lionel – Websourcing.fr

hello, first thx for this nice and valuable plugin.

I just figure out one of my issue with it. You use the standard wp_ prefix in your DB request.

But some (I’m in this case) change it. Consequently, asap I try to exclude categories, the request fails.

There is an “option” in WP option that store this prefix : $wpdb->prefix

Maybe you should just upgrad this part of the query using this prefix.

    if ($omitCats != ”) {
    $sql = $sql . ” AND NOT (ID IN (SELECT tr.object_id FROM ” . $wpdb->prefix.”term_relationships AS tr INNER JOIN …

    cheers
    Lionel

  • http://blog.websourcing.fr Lionel – Websourcing.fr

Just to let you know that I upgrade this DB request and it works now, evn if I exclude categories.

here is the new code :

    if ($omitCats != ”) {
    $sql = $sql . ” AND NOT (ID IN (SELECT tr.object_id FROM “.$wpdb->prefix.”term_relationships AS tr INNER JOIN “.$wpdb->prefix.”term_taxonomy AS tt ON tr.term_taxonomy_id = tt.term_taxonomy_id WHERE tt.taxonomy = ‘category’ AND tt.term_id IN (” . $omitCats . “)))”;
    }

    in tweet-old-post/top-core.php

Same for me.. if I omit one category it’s not working anymore…

  • http://www.thenets.org/ Luiz Felipe

The button “Account login: Sign in with Twitter” don’t work. Help me plx!

  • http://www.hightechdad.com HighTechDad

Confirmed that if you have a category excluded, the plugin is not tweeting anymore. Bummer!

  • http://www.dragonblogger.com Justin Germino

I just confirmed when I removed all category exclusions it started working again.

  • http://www.dragonblogger.com Justin Germino

I confirmed that the plugin isn’t working on any of my blogs anymore, I deauthorized and re-authorized my twitter account and still doesn’t work.

When I try to tweet manually I get:
No post found to tweet. Please check your settings and try again.

I have all my intervals set to 1 and the min post age to 1 and max post age to 365.

    Any idea’s?

I do category filtering on a few categories, so maybe it is the problem now?

  • AJ

Fantastic plugin but a few questions..

    1. How do i stop it posting the URL back to the post? i only want it to tweet the body of the post

    2. How do i make the plugin only tweet each post once and never tweet the same post again until the cycle is over? this would ensure all posts are tweeted atleast once… is this possible?

    Other then that, works perfect!

  • http://ModernServantLeader.com Benjamin Lichtenwalner

Great plugin Ajay – just what I sought, with only one small piece missing. I’d recommend the option to use a custom field to pull the tweet from. This would be an option that IF the custom field value existed for a post Tweet Old Post would use the custom value, if not, it would use the default values. Thanks again – I am definitely using it on my site even without this custom value option. Thanks for creating and sharing.

    Hi Ajay,

Wow, what a wonderful and powerful plugin you have created. I’m giving it a whirl on my site now. I was wondering if it would be possible to add multiple twitter accounts so that it tweets posts out to more than one?

  • Wiki Leak

    Hi Ajay,
This is a very nice plugin. I hope we all could help squash the remaining bugs.

This is what i have observed. The plugin tweets a few times then stops. I played with time parameters without any result. Curiously, if I log into my Dashboard by clicking on Site Admin often the plugin tweets within seconds.

Does anybody else see this behavior? What’s the explanation and/or the solution?

  • Sarah

This is one of my favorite plugins because it helps to bring in site visitors even when I’m not actively promoting my blog.

  • http://www.ohatdl.com Jason Tucker

    Ajay,

I was wondering if you could do one of the following:

    1) I use a plugin called “Twitter Friendly Links” which makes short urls for my blog posts so i can use these to tweet. This short url is in the form of http://domain.com/1293 1293 is the post ID in twitter. Can you see if you can interface with this plugin in some way to get the link. My understanding is that this plugin can use an alternate domain as well.

    2) If you can do the above can you add the option to use http://domain.com/1293 since the Twitter Friendly Links does use a custom field for it’s urls.

    Thanks!

    Ajay,

I’ve been using your plugin for a few weeks now and love it. I was wondering if the following can be done:

    1) Allow multiple twitter accounts to be setup to tweet from various categories. Baseball posts go to the Baseball related twitter account and Football posts go to the Football related twitter account

    2) Allow the user to custom build the way in which the tweet is structured using tokens: {title} {url} {hash} or {title} {content} {hash} {url} etc

    3) Add the functionality of using “Twitter Friendly Links” plugin’s style URLs.

First I must say what how incredible this plugin is! It is amazing, it gives me an extra 2000 page views a day just by retweeting my old jokes on my joke blog.

That is why I am so sad! Three days ago it stopped working. I upgraded it and still nothing. I saw that I am suddenly not signed in. I tried to sign in again but when I click on the twitter button nothing happens. Please help! This is the most amazing plugin and I cant imagine not having it!

    Thanks!!

I have just downloaded the plug, but there’s not login button for the tweeter even though I deactivate it and activate again, so, when I click Tweet now it says: “OOPS!!! there seems to be some problem while tweeting. If problem continues please try re-authorizing your acount again.
First Deauthorize and then authorize again and check.” so I have to not use it since I can’t login! :( It seemed to be a good idea but it just doesn’t work for me.

    Hi

its me again. I have a suggestion regarding the use with two Twitter accounts.

Would it not be possible to have the plugin installed twice if you publish it under a second name (Tweet old Posts 2). I am not an expert, but would than not be possible by just changing the file names?

Maybe this is an easier way than do the whole programming.

    Thanks again

    Kind regards from Germany

Tweet Old Post 3.2.2 is problematic….!

When I try to update the settings all that happens is it logs me out of WordPress…!

When I log back in the settings have not been changed.

Tweet old post Version 3.2.2 works fine. I have installed the new Version Version 3.2.3 and the Plug-In did not work.

After installation I see this message with fatal error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_SL in /www/htdocs/…/…/wp-content/plugins/tweet-old-post/tweet-old-post.php on line 7

Please have a look to the source code and publish a new version, which is working fine.

    Thank you for help

@Graham I’ve got the same problem. I updated WP to the last version, downloaded TOP 3.2.3 version and it’s even more problematic : it gives a fatal error !!!
    Help !

    Cannot activate version 3.2.3

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_SL in tweet-old-post.php on line 7

After updating, am still unable to change the settings. The plugin is spewing links with no title, description, or anything (just a link) into my twitter stream. I’ll be deactivating until a response and fix is made.

Tweet old post conflict with google analytics for wordpress – when tweet old post goes to twitter for authentication, twitter authenticates and returns with oauth_token, when we include the oauth_token in the URL it is getting redirected to google analytics for wordpress plugin.

For time being to make it work
    - disable google analytics for wordpress
    - authorize tweet old post with twitter
    - enable google analytics for wordpress

I’m still not able to get this plug in to work. I’m using version 3.3.0 with WordPress 3.3.1, each time I try to change anything to the plug in it kicks me out and back to the login page…

clients are getting frustrated as they now have to manually post blogs to to Twitter.

    Is there a solution?
